The bitsPerValue determines the relative size of the data download required for each parameter. The bitsPerValue ranges from 12 to 20 bits for our current parameters.

Note the data download size is not a direct multiplier of the bitsPerValue as there are standard overheads within the generated GRIB files which are common for all parameters. However, the bitsPerValue is a good guide to the relative cost of each parameter.

Application name

Your application name is used as a link to our gateway through which your API requests are processed. On subscription we automatically create an application for you with a default name. The application name has no bearing on how things are processed.

About monthly data usage

Data plans

All data plans are managed in GBs worth of data but note we use 1,024 conversion for all our plans. So 1,024 GB is equivalent to 1 TB (Terabyte). Strictly speaking this is TiB and GiB i.e. Tebibyte and Gigibyte

Estimate monthly usage

Estimated order size if all selected data for all runs is taken based on an expected file size per parameter. Note this is a guide only and actual sizes for each parameter will vary.

Whilst every effort has been made to make the estimated file download sizes accurate customers should check the projected figures which are based on actual downloads as well as the estimated file sizes.

Usage this month

This figure is the actual data transferred for this calendar month so far.

Projected Monthly Usage

The projected monthly usage is calculated by:

  • retrieving the amount of data downloaded in the last 30 days
  • divide by the number of active days (>0 bytes downloaded) to get a daily average
  • multiply by the number of days in the current month for maximum monthly usage

Order Naming

Note when used in the API the order name/ id is transformed by substituting spaces with hyphens and all letters are lowercase e.g. 'GLOBAL10k 12amRun' becomes 'global10k-12amrun'

Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)

The taxpayer identification number (TIN) is the unique identifier assigned to the Account Holder by the tax administration in the Account Holder’s jurisdiction of tax residence. It is a unique combination of letters and/or numbers used to identify an individual or entity for the purposes of administering the tax laws of that jurisdiction.

Our subscription process has similar steps for all products but the exact details of each page may differ depending on the product selected e.g. available plan types

On selecting to subscribe to a product the types of plan will be displayed for selection.

Products will allow all or a subset of the plan types:

  • Free
  • Trial
  • Card payment
  • Invoice

After selecting your plan type you will be asked to confirm acceptance of our licencing and terms.

Click the link to view the terms and then check the box to continue.

Our current terms will always be available within WDH.

You wil be unable to continue unless you accept our licence terms.

For any subscription we collect a small amount of information:

If you are subscribing to an invoice plan we will ask for some additional information to kickstart the approval process.

For invoice payment you will have to consent to a credit check to continue.

For self-serve card payment plans you get a choice of subscription tier correlating to the amount of available data.

Our subscription is collected monthly and all data quotas are reset at the beginning of each calendar month.

If your country of origin is the United Kingdom we automatically add 20% VAT to the subscription price.

Confirm Card and Pay

For self-service card payment plans, you will need to enter the card details you would like to use for the subscription.

If you have already added card details from the 'My payment details' page or subscription process, these details will be displayed on the payment screen, with your default card pre-selected. Payment methods can also be added and managed from this screen. You can manage your cards at a later date from the 'My payment details' screen, including setting your default card.

All payment plans are billed on the 1st of each month to align with the data usage limits, so initially you will be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the current month.

Add billing details during the subscription process

If you have not already entered your billing email address, you will be taken first to the 'Billing Details' page.

The email address entered here will be the email address that invoices are sent to for all card subscriptions.

This can be modified at a later date by going to the 'My payment details' page, and then clicking 'Billing Details'.

On the add card screen, enter your payment card details and then press save to continue.

The form includes the option to make this card the default card for future subscriptions. This will be checked by default if this is the first card you have added.

Depending on your card provider, you may see additional screens for 3D Secure authentication.

These card details, including your default card, can be managed at a later stage from the 'My payment details' screen.

Up to 5 payment cards can be added to your account at any one time.

Subscription Confirmation

Once all the subscription details have been entered WDH will create a subscription and enable access to our gateway to retrieve your data.

Note that trial and invoice plans require approval before they are active.

Free and self-serve card payment plans are immediately active.

Continue will reload the subscription dashboard.

The dashboard will reflect your new subscription and allow the subscription to be managed.

For site specific you are ready to send in API requests for our Spot data.
